Oyibode Defends Governance, Urges Constructive Criticism In Udu.
The Executive Chairman of Udu Local Government Council, Olorogun(Hon.), Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode, JP, FCIA has called for responsible public discourse and evidence-based engagement among stakeholders, particularly on social media platforms.
The Udu Council boss, Oyibode made this known while responding to issues raised on the Udu Kingdom WhatsApp group, where he stressed the importance of accountability and factual accuracy in public conversations. He challenged individuals making claims about his administration to substantiate their assertions, urging them to publish verifiable details, including allocations and credible sources of information.
“We must not talk what we cannot defend,” the council boss stated, emphasizing the need for integrity and responsibility in public commentary.
Addressing those drawing comparisons between administrations, Oyibode advised that a proper understanding of comparative administration is essential before making such evaluations. According to him, governance assessments require careful consideration of key variables and contextual factors, rather than superficial judgments.
He further cautioned against what he described as unwarranted intrusion into his administrative space under the guise of social media activism, noting that governance should not be trivialized.
The chairman reaffirmed that while constructive criticism is a vital component of good governance, it must be devoid of destructive tendencies and character assassination, which he warned could have legal implications.
“Good governance encourages criticism, but it must be constructive, not destructive, and not amount to character assassination,” he added.
Oyibode also urged members of the public to focus on issues that promote mutual benefits, rather than those driven by envy or jealousy.
Following his remarks, several participants on the Udu Kingdom WhatsApp group commended the chairman for his proactive engagement and responsiveness to public concerns, describing his intervention as timely and reassuring.
The development highlights the growing role of digital platforms in shaping civic engagement and the increasing demand for transparency and accountability in local governance.
